Interview with Ameerah:

What did you like about the Song Connects Us program? Could you share a memory or two?

Something I loved about the Song Connects Us Program was how comfortable I was throughout it. I’m a very social anxious person at times and just shy in general but working with people like Jordyn and Brian was so rewarding. I don’t know much about songwriting or producing, but I did love learning about and diving into a part of me i never really knew was there. I love listening to music and really hearing the words of it all. I enjoy singing but doing it in a professional studio was not something I was used to, but again I felt comfortable the whole way through. Learning new things and exploring new outlets of passion was very exciting. Jordyn who was the girl I worked with is so talented and Brian was such a great teacher and guide throughout the whole process as well. It’s my second time being a part of this program and I loved it. I have memories of being in the studio with Jordyn playing our song over and over again trying to memorize and get the beats right, which was so much fun! I also remember the first time they wanted me to sing on the track and just feeling so accomplished when you come out of the booth and hearing everything come together. It’s a great experience!

Would you recommend the Song Connects Us program to others?

Yes I would! I find this program to be extremely judgement free and a place where lots of creative juices are allowed to flow. I think it’s an amazing outlet for songwriters who want to see their vision come to life. I personally am not a songwriter, but I do love to write scenes and monologues, and I was surprisingly able to implement that into the songwriting process. Working with such talented people who just love their craft is super inspiring. Everyone is so nice a welcoming, and they are really great at guiding and not forcing, Which is something I really appreciate in this business.

What are your hobbies and favorite places?

Some of my hobbies include dancing, sports, singing, painting and spending time with loved ones. My favorite places are my room, of course. I also love restaurants, specifically this one callers THE CHARM, where I go every year for my birthday with my parents. I love Central and Prospect Park because there are so many memories there with friends just enjoying time with each other!

What is the song "We Is The Now" about?

I think this song is focused on empowerment of the new generation. I think that there has been so much negativity in the world recently, and our song basically is a message to our fellow poets. Saying to never give up and to fight for your dreams no matter what they may entail. To never let others tear you down, and make yourself your number one cheerleader.

How did you decide on the music, and how does it make you feel?

Brian was the main mastermind behind the music and its flow. He gave us a sample beat before we even started writing. It was to give us some insight on how it would sound and what the vibe was. I think Brian chose a beat that kind of matched this cool, mellow, but also strong ambiance we were trying to portray with our words. It definitely made us more grounded in our work. After we had the lyrics, we were able to add cool basses or drums, and when we also added singing, that was done by both me and Jordan, which I thought was a fun add-on.
